When Josh Rawlinson joined Prendos as a building surveyor 18 months ago, his colleagues encouraged him to take the New Zealand Institute of Building Surveyors (NZIBS) core modules. He says these courses benefited him greatly in his work, and he now has a new confidence in his future as a building surveyor.
“The modules themselves are a good introduction to the various roles a building surveyor carries out. They broaden your horizons and really help you to understand what it is that you’re trying to achieve.”
Josh has completed seven of the 10 core modules, and is looking forward to completing the rest of the course.
“The NZIBS trainers have a wealth of experience and knowledge on which I have been able to draw upon which I feel benefits our clients.
“I particularly enjoyed the Weathertightness modules and found the modules with a focus on litigation very useful. They made me think about the importance of accuracy in report writing and how you should go about a task or an inspection.”
The construction industry is constantly evolving, and with the current housing boom, Josh recognises that skill and quality control are vital to his clients.
“It is apparent that there are a lot of passive fire and also structural issues in our buildings as a result of poor practice. This highlights the importance of proper training and the attention to detail that building surveying requires.”
